The UN agency for tourism or business UNWTO (United Nations 
World Tourism Organization) chose Bali as a pilot project developing eco-friendly tourism or Green Tourism.
Bali was chosen because a local wisdom to maintain harmony between man, nature, and belief in God. "Wisdom is still terhaga until now," said UNWTO Assistant Secretary-General Geoffery Lipman at the Office of the Governor of Bali, Denpasar Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Thursday (26/11/2009).
By choosing Bali, Lipman insists will try to help Bali in solving problems. In the early stages, it will conduct an analysis of the problems and needs facing the Balinese as the problem of alternative energy use and conservation of natural resources.
It also will try to help Bali in getting financial support from several donor agencies like the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika the same occasion hoped, the election will strengthen branding Bali Island of the Gods as a tourist destination environmentally friendly.
By branding it, he hoped tourists who come to Bali later on is that quality tourists with respect to the conservation of nature and culture
