Power Plant Geothermal
Lahendong is the largest generating units with environmentally friendly energy based on geothermal resources in North Sulawesi. North Sulawesi PLTP contributed 60 percent of the electricity system in the province.
Lahendong area located in Tomohon, North Sulawesi Province. The potential of geothermal resources Lahendong / Tompaso which reaches 200 MWe have been developed in PLTP Lahendong I, II and III which will supply the electricity needs for the people of North Sulawesi.
Area Lahendong operated since the year 2001 that begins with the operation of PLTP Lahendong I of 20 MW. Development of Geothermal Power Plant units next, ie Lahendong II Geothermal Power Plant 20 MW started in 2004 and began operation in 2007.
Lahendong II Geothermal Power Plant which is the development of Lahendong I Geothermal Power Plant is a strategic project for a significant contribution in meeting the electricity needs in the province of North Sulawesi. This project was built with a design that has a life time operation for 30 years. For Lahendong III Geothermal Power Plant 20 MW, operating tests have been carried out in April 2009, so the total generation capacity in the area for 60 Lahendong into MW.
Development of geothermal resources (geothermal) to power plants projected to be the mainstay energy source along with the depletion of oil reserves in the world. The use of geothermal energy is believed to more environmentally friendly because emissions are lower than those produced by other plants that use coal, oil and natural gas. Another benefit to the environment is not the disposal of waste in the open because the water production of condensate and water is injected back into the well so that the stability of the reservoir pressure is maintained.
This is in line with Government targets energy mix as stated in Presidential Decree No. 5 of 2006 on National Energy Policy, which stated in the National Energy Management Blueprint 2010 to 2025, that the role of geothermal energy by 6.3 percent in the composition of the national energy mix in 2025.
To encourage investors to develop geothermal potential in Indonesia, the Government has issued the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 5 Year 2009 on Guidelines for Power Purchase Price by PT PLN (Persero) from the Cooperative or Other Business Enterprises.
